Career

Markus Schweiger comes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen , one of the leading German winter sports resorts in Upper Bavaria. In the 1950s, the SC Riessersee was one of the most successful German ice sports clubs, taking a top position especially in curling . Since Markus Schweiger was particularly interested in this sport, he became a member of this club. His achievements justified the fact that he soon moved up to the first team of SC Riessersee and took part in national and international competitions together with Martin Reiser , whose brother Georg and Hermann Ostler . In this line-up, the SC Riessersee was European champion in ice stock sport in 1952, 1953 and 1954.

For these successes, he and the German ice stock team were awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Theodor Heuss on February 19, 1956 .
