Markus Steilemann

Markus Steilemann (born April 30, 1970 in Geilenkirchen ) is a German chemist and manager and has been CEO of the plastics manufacturer Covestro AG since June 2018 .

Life and professional history

Steilemann studied chemistry and business administration at RWTH Aachen University and received his doctorate there. In 1999 he began his professional career at Bayer AG . From 2008 he was head of the Polycarbonates Business Unit at Bayer MaterialScience. From 2013 to 2015 he lived in China and headed the division in China. In 2015 he returned to Germany and became a member of the Executive Board of Covestro AG, which had emerged from Bayer Materialscience. There he was responsible for innovation. In addition, he later took over the management of the Polyurethanes division. From 2017 until his unanimous election as CEO, he was Chief Commercial Officer responsible for marketing and sales. On June 1, 2018, Steilemann became CEO of Covestro.

In September 2018, Steilemann announced further investments and acquisitions at Covestro, but had to announce a profit warning for Covestro in November 2018 .

Steilemann is married to a Brazilian woman and has two children. The family lives in Cologne .
