Markus Wieser (born September 21, 1965 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ) is President of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Lower Austria ( AKNÖ ) and Chairman of the ÖGB Lower Austria. He was elected President on November 14, 2013 and maintained his position in the Chamber of Labor elections in May 2014, where he achieved 59 percent of the vote as the top candidate of FSG Lower Austria.

youth

Wieser grew up in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. After the Böhlerwerk elementary school , the Rosenau / Sonntagberg secondary school and the Rosenau / Sonntagberg polytechnic course, Wieser began his apprenticeship as a company electrician at VEW-Ybbstalwerke. Wieser was already active in the union back then and at the age of 16 he was the rural youth chairman of the metal-mining-energy union , while he held the function of the youth trust council in the company.

ÖGB

After the final apprenticeship examination and the military service, Wieser became regional youth secretary of the ÖGB Lower Austria in 1984. After graduating from the Social Academy, Wieser took on the role of Central Youth Secretary of the metal-mining-energy union within the ÖGB in 1988. From 1996 to 2000, Wieser headed the newly established department of advertising and communication there. From 2000 to 2003, Wieser was District Secretary Baden-Mödling of the Metall-Textil trade union, from 2003 to 2013 State Secretary of the PRO-GE trade union .

During his time at the PRO-GE union, Wieser negotiated a large number of social plans for employees. He was requested by the works councils as chief negotiator for employees.

Chamber of Labor Lower Austria

From 2005 to November 2013, Wieser was Vice President of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Lower Austria. On November 14, 2013 he was elected the seventh President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labor.

Wieser has been a member of the board of the Berufsförderungsinstitut (BFI) Niederösterreich since 2003 and represents those insured at the Lower Austria Regional Health Insurance Fund . From 2001 to 2012 he was a lay judge at the regional and higher regional courts. He completed a variety of trade union training courses, including that of a strategy coach.

Children's rehabilitation initiative

As a concerned father, he founded the Friends' Association in 2009, which is committed to the financing and expansion of child and youth rehabilitation in Austria.

Private

Wieser has three daughters, his hobbies include diving, cooking and DIY.
