Marmaduke Duke is a rock project by the two Scots Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro and JP Reid from Sucioperro. The project of the two band heads is based on three albums and represents the story of a crazy duke from the 16th century, told in small musical stories. It is said to be the setting of a three-volume unpublished story that a Portuguese friend gave them.

Neil and Reid aka The Atmosphere and The Dragon are both from Ayrshire and distantly related. In parallel with the formation of their respective bands, the two started planning the project from 2003 when legal disputes blocked their band work, and they had written the first album The Magnificent Duke within a week and completed it by 2005. The work consists of three times six pieces, each alternating a rock-punk, an acoustic-melodic and an experimental-playful piece, which is supposed to represent the mood swings of the duke. The album was released as a limited edition of 4000 copies.

Part two started shortly afterwards and finished just as quickly and the two Scots played pieces from The Duke Pandemonium at their gigs as early as 2005 . Then there were problems with her record label, which completely dissolved in 2008. And then Neil's band, Biffy Clyro, had a great success with the album Puzzle in mid-2007, so that he was caught there for the time being. In spring 2009 the album was released on a new label and this time singles were also released. Shortly before the album was released, the second single Rubber Lover was released , which made it to number 12 in the British charts. The album was also a chart success this time. Completely different from the first album, this time it's about the hedonistic-decadent lifestyle of the duke and musically this is expressed in ten melodic electronic / dancepop pieces. Well-known producer and remixer Rich Costey mixed the album.

For the conclusion of the trilogy entitled The Death of the Duke , a 40-minute instrumental guitar piece is being planned, which depicts the downfall of the Duke and ends with his death.

Neil and Reid complete their appearances in clothing reminiscent of the 16th century with hat, stick and cape. They are supported on stage by the other members of Biffy Clyro. In addition, at concerts there is another, masked man in a hat on stage who embodies the "Duke". This is played by Michael Logg (aka "The Big Slice"), the ex-bassist of Sucioperro.

In addition to their own titles, Marmaduke Duke also recorded the title Friday I'm in Love for a tribute album for The Cure .
