Marquess of Headfort
Marquess of Headfort is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The family seat of the Marquesses was Headfort House near Kells in County Meath, Ireland .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on December 29, 1800 for the Irish politician Thomas Taylour, 2nd Earl of Bective .
On February 14, 1795, he had inherited the titles of Baron Headfort , of Headfort in the County of Meath, Viscount Headford , of Headfort in the County of Meath and Earl of Bective , of Bective Castle in the County of Meath, from his father this had been awarded on September 6, 1760, April 12, 1762 and October 24, 1766. He had also inherited from him the title of Baronet , of Kells in the County of Meath, which had been bestowed on his great-grandfather on June 12, 1704. All of these titles belong to the Peerage or Baronetage of Ireland.
The 2nd Marquess was also raised to Baron Kenlis , of Kenlis in the County of Meath on September 10, 1831 . This title belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and, in contrast to the Irish titles, was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 .
