Martha Wachter-Schneider

Martha Wachter-Schneider (* 1883 ; † 1978 in Basel ) was a committed woman who, in the service of various aid organizations, helped numerous children damaged by World War II to relax in Switzerland .

Services

Since the early 1950s, Martha Wachter has been accompanying children in need of relaxation on vacation to Switzerland on behalf of the Children's Aid of the Swiss Red Cross and the Berlin Senate for Youth and Sport. Thousands of children traveled with the “Danti vo dr Kinderhilf”, initially in special trains, then later in smaller and larger groups to Basel and other Swiss cities and villages.

Martha Wachter also traveled to the Netherlands , France , Austria and Hungary to organize child transports. After the Swiss Red Cross stopped these transports, they were taken over by the National Association of Free Swiss Workers , which regularly placed mainly children from Berlin with Swiss families.

Honors

Martha Wachter received the Great Merit Badge from the German Red Cross for her commitment .
