Today's classroom building "Haus I", built in 1871, has 35 classrooms with science and art rooms. There are also two gyms in the building, and another is outside on Max-Kästner-Straße. Across from “House I” is “House II”, which was modernized in 2011 and in which classes 5 and 6 are located, separated from the “large classes”.

history

The school was founded in 1517 in the building of the Cantorat (today's city archive) as the first Frankenberg school. The building burned down in 1712 and was rebuilt as a boys 'school in 1714, with the girls' school to follow later. From 1839, the new compulsory schooling meant that more teachers had to be hired as the classes grew. Since the current building was only inaugurated in 1871, classes were held in five different buildings. In 1881 the “North” gymnasium was built with the introduction of school gymnastics through the elementary school law. In 1883 the number of students was 2000, who were taught by just 36 teachers. In 1897 the “Süd” gymnasium was added to the south wing of the building. In 1941 the school was separated into girls (right part) and boys (left part), for which separate entrances and stairwells existed and are still there today.
