Martin Groth (born October 20, 1969 in Hanover ) is a former German soccer player .

Groth's career as a professional football player began on the 33rd match day of the 1987/88 season with his substitution in the game of Hannover 96 against Eintracht Frankfurt . For Hannover 96 he was active in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga from 1987 to 1995. In 1995 he moved to Hansa Rostock in the 1st Bundesliga. In 1998 he then went to Hamburger SV . The defensive midfielder played a total of 155 games in the 1st Bundesliga and scored 16 goals during this time. He scored 15 goals in 208 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Hannover 96 and VfB Lübeck . Groth was known to be a very fair player. In his 17-year professional career, he only received 17 yellow cards and not a single red card.

In 1992 he won the DFB Cup with the then second division team Hannover 96 . In the 2003/2004 season he led the second division club VfB Lübeck as team captain in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. In 2000 he qualified for the Champions League with Hamburger SV. After Lübeck's relegation to the regional league, he ended his professional career and moved to his home club SC Langenhagen in the Lower Saxony league for one season . In mid-2005 Groth ended his active football career. In the 2007/08 season, the ex-professional played another six games (no goal) in the 5th division for Lower Saxony. In the 2008/09 season Groth acted as sports director of SC Langenhagen in the Oberliga Niedersachsen West.

Martin Groth is also the owner of a sporting goods store in Langenhagen .
