The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library ( MLKML ) is a branch library of the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) in Washington, DC It was built in 1972 as a 37,000 m² steel, glass and brick structure based on designs by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe built on a budget of $ 18 million. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 22, 2007 as a Historic Monument . The holdings include books, newspapers, maps, photographs, digital media, etc., on the history of Washington, DC and the history of African Americans .
