Martin Sievers was mayor of Neustadt near Magdeburg in the 17th century .

Life

Sievers' birth and death dates are not known. He was first mentioned as Ackermann in 1639 on the occasion of the baptism of his first daughter. Further documentary evidence dates from the years 1640, 1641 and 1648. Sievers then became a member of the Neustadt council. For the years 1676, 1677 and 1679 he is mentioned as a councilor. In 1681 Sievers became mayor. He held this office until 1690.

He enjoyed great popularity among the population. In his honor, the city ​​gate (formerly Inslebertor, Mitteltor and later Schützentor), which is located near his farm and which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War , was named after him as the Sieverstor. The name of Sieverstorstraße is based on this designation to this day .
