The city administration was commissioned to submit appropriate proposals. A first proposal, which provided for a designation in the commercial port, was withdrawn on March 10, 2005 after a controversial discussion in the city council. This was followed by the finally decided proposal, which provided for a more representative designation. Originally the spelling Sarajevoufer was intended. In the course of the reconstruction of the city in the time of the GDR after the severe destruction of the Second World War , which did not adhere to the grown urban structure , this street was built over. At the former junctions of this street there are currently prefabricated residential buildings.
The meat market was called Scharrn . An old Scharmn (also known as Scharm ) was closer to the Old Market . The later new Scharrn, from which the street derived its name, was probably built before 1235, as the meat market had to be located in front of the city walls in the Middle Ages and the area of Scharrnstraße was incorporated into the city when the city was expanded around 1235. Before 1235 the street ran along the outside of the city wall. This Scharrn was roughly at the confluence of Scharrnstrasse with Breite Weg. The meat stands were probably only on the southern side of Scharrnstrasse. After the destruction of Magdeburg in the Thirty Years War in 1631, only the Alte Scharrn was initially used as a meat market. In 1641 the new Scharrns was re-established. In 1662, the owner of the Breiter Weg 70 building at the confluence with Breiten Weg received permission to build over three stands in front of his building on Scharrnstraße. In 1675 the building was expanded. Until it was destroyed, the Scharrnstrasse narrowed significantly immediately before it joined the Breite Weg.

After the old Scharrn had been built over, the new purpose of distinguishing it fell away. Until 1730, the eastern part of Margarethenstrasse belonged to Scharrnstrasse, which thus led in a zigzag to Grünearmstrasse .

Schawinskyweg ; Ottersleben district ; ZIP 39116

The designation was made by the city council on June 8, 2000, but was controversial. The Treuhandliegenschaftsgesellschaft mbH (TLG) wanted to develop a new residential area with 9 new streets. The TLG suggested naming artists from Magdeburg, including Alexander Schawinsky. The citizens' initiative "Citizens for Ottersleben" turned against this. They suggested old field names and village terms for naming. The Schawinskyweg should then be called "Zum Hünengrab" and refer to the former Hünengrab Ottersleben . The CDU parliamentary group introduced a corresponding amendment to the city council. The reason given was that naming after people was rather unusual in the area and that there was no connection to Ottersleben. The amendment found a majority in the Local and Legal Committee. In the city council, however, the application was rejected, so that the street was named after Alexander Schawinsky.

In the middle of the street at the confluence with Buttergasse there was a small square that was already known as Der Schwertfegen around 1552 . It is believed that the square was created because there was a gate in the city wall that originally ran there . In the course of the reconstruction of the city in the time of the GDR after the severe destruction of the Second World War, which did not adhere to the grown urban structure , this street also disappeared from the cityscape. Since its basic course parallel to the Breiten Weg, behind a GDR prefabricated building , had been preserved, the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen applied for the renaming of the now nameless path in 2004. A naming was initially omitted. The west side of the street was rebuilt. At the beginning of 2006, however, the city administration expressed its intention to rename this street as Schwertfegerstraße again. A decision by the city council is still pending.

The nursery was in fact at the end of it. The construction of the A 14 autobahn also separated the tree nursery from the city of Magdeburg and thus from Halberstädter Chaussee. Since the affiliation of the tree nursery to Halberstädter Chaussee and its distant development was hardly recognizable, the city council decided on January 9, 2003 to rename it.
