Berthold Schwiesau lived in Neustadt near Magdeburg in the 15th century and founded the Schwiesau Hospital .

Schwiesau lived with his wife Magerte Schwiesau in the sixties and seventies of the 15th century on Sandstrasse in Neustadt. The Schwiesaus operated an estate with various pieces of land. Since there was no heir, the Schwiesau couple planned to set up a charitable foundation.

An application was therefore made to Archbishop Johann von Bayern for permission to set up a hospital. On 24. May 1471 was Foundation approved. In honor of Berthold Schwiesau, the city of Magdeburg named a street as Schwiesaustrasse .
