This place was still the beginning of the 19th century as Anger north before the village Ottersleben. In the course of the completion of Halberstädter Chaussee around 1820 and a village expansion to the north, the development of the area also changed. A total of 6 streets were created, which met at the site of the Eichplatz. The square itself, apart from the lanes of the streets, was unpaved and overgrown with weeds. A gutter ran along the streets . The first tentative design of the square is said to have taken place in 1898 by planting a single oak . The later fate of the tree is not known. The Ottersleber named the place after this tree An der Eiche or Auf der Eiche . With the establishment of the post office in 1900 , several shops, two medical practices and the bus stop, the square was upgraded. However, it was not officially named. The buildings belonged to the adjacent streets.
Under the NSDAP Mayor Grünberg, the square was redesigned in 1937 , also with the aim of holding NSDAP rallies there. The place was paved. Only 2 green strips remained. A normal clock and a water pump were installed in the eastern part . A four-armed candelabra was erected in the round part . The official name of the place was Horst-Wessel-Platz after the NSDAP member Horst Wessel .

After the turn of 1989 the square was renamed Eichplatz. This renaming led to criticism, as it could also be misunderstood as a rejection of the Scholl siblings . However, a neighboring street was renamed Geschwister-Scholl-Straße . Between 1997 and 1999 , the square, which had developed into the center of the Ottersleben district, was fundamentally redesigned. In keeping with the name, various oaks have been planted on the square.
