history
Erpitz was first mentioned in 1441. When it was first mentioned, the name Johannes Erpicz , a Sorbian family name, was mentioned. In 1545 it was named as Erbsso and around 1550 as Erbisch and Erbso . The Sorbian place names Schėrpschow and Šeŕpšow were mentioned in 1761 and 1843. The interpretation as a personal name indicating possession ( Tiŕpiš ) can be derived from the Lower Sorbian form of the name Šeŕpšow . The German form of the name Erpitz is based on Erps , which can also be derived from the shortened Lower Sorbian form Šeŕpšow . The initial sound Sch- was probably omitted to avoid two successive sibilants. Erpitz than lines village created, the houses are on the west side of the village street. In the vernacular, this has led to the phrase: "In Erpitz, the plinsen are only baked on one side." There was a similar phrase for the devastated village of Rauno near Senftenberg .
As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Erpitz came to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the Calau district . On January 1, 1926, Erpitz was incorporated into Groß Jehser. After the Second World War, Groß Jehser and Erpitz belonged to the Calau district, which was newly founded in 1952 . The place belongs to the church district Niederlausitz . On December 31, 2001, Groß Jehser was incorporated into the city of Calau with Erpitz and the towns of Buckow , Craupe , Gollmitz and Zinnitz .
