Lower Lusatia church district

The Protestant church district Lower Lausitz is a parish of the diocese Görlitz the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz . The church district comprises the southern part of the Dahme-Spreewald district , the northern and central part of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district and the northeast part of the Elbe-Elster district . The superintendent is based in Lübben (Spreewald) .

The church district was created on January 1, 2010 from the union of the church districts Lübben and Finsterwalde . On January 1, 2020, the Senftenberg region was incorporated from the dissolved Senftenberg-Spremberg church district into the Niederlausitz church district.

Around 30,000 parishioners live in the church district (as of May 2020). 28 pastors look after the parishioners. Each pastor is responsible for several churches. The district synod meets twice a year, in spring and autumn. It has 85 members. The district church council meets monthly and has 14 members. Partnerships exist with the church districts of Krefeld-Viersen, Solingen, Koblenz and Saar-Ost.

From January to October 2010, Markus Herrbruck was acting superintendent. Thomas Köhler, the first elected superintendent, was introduced to his office on October 10, 2010.
