Church district Lübben
The Evangelical Church District Lübben was a church district in the Cottbus district of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia . The church district comprised the southern part of the Dahme-Spreewald district and the northern part of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . The superintendent was based in Lübben (Spreewald) .
Around 22,300 parishioners lived in the church district (as of December 31, 2008), which corresponds to about a quarter of the total population. About 20 pastors looked after the parishioners. Each pastor was responsible for several churches. In addition, the church district Lübben operated a diaconal work , three Protestant day-care centers and a Protestant elementary school.
The district synod met twice a year, in spring and autumn. It last had about 78 members. The district council of churches met monthly and had 21 members.
A partnership with the Koblenz parish had existed since the 1960s. In addition, the church district maintained partnership relationships with the church districts of Krefeld, Solingen and St. Wendel.
A union with the neighboring Finsterwalde parish came into force on January 1, 2010. The resulting church district bears the name Evangelical Church District Niederlausitz .
