history

It is assumed that the Angerdorf Missen, like the Gahlen part of the municipality and the Kahnsdorf town , which was demolished in 1986/1987, is a planned German settlement that was created on behalf of the Meißen diocese . The place name allows a connection to the word Meissen . Ernst Eichler derives the place name from the Old Sorbian word Mšina or Mšeny , which means passed with moss . The kitchen estate Missen was a farming village in the margraviate of Niederlausitz for which delivery to Lübben was mandatory. The Missen church was first mentioned in 1346 . The oldest part of the place is believed to be between the church and the corner, as the streets radiate from this point to the neighboring towns. In 1761 the place was mentioned as Missen and Pschinne , in 1843 it was mentioned as Pšyny .

After the Congress of Vienna Missen came with the entire Lower Lusatia to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the district of Calau . After the separation , the estate passed to the Count of Pourtales . It was a large agricultural business with 30 workers. In addition to the Erbrichtergut, the Kruggut, consisting of a distillery, brewery and restaurant with 15 workers, developed. There was also a water mill in the village.

On January 1, 1928, the place Jehschen was incorporated into Missen. After the Second World War, Missen belonged to the Calau district, which was newly founded in 1952 . In 1955, a central school with a gym and school kitchen was built in Missen. The neighboring town of Gahlen was incorporated on January 1, 1957. The place belongs to the church district Niederlausitz . On October 26, 2003, the village was incorporated into Vetschau / Spreewald with the places Koßwig , Lassow and Raddusch .
