history

The place Wüstenhain, created as a dead-end village, was first mentioned in a document on July 22, 1377 under the name Wüstenhayn , at that time the place was owned by the von Bichow family . The German place name Wüstenhain suggests a clearing settlement, and is a translation of the original Sorbian name of the place, Pusty Gózd , which was later changed to Huštań . Desert grove was completely destroyed during the Thirty Years War . In 1725 the von Heynitz family acquired the Wüstenhain estate. Until 1806 the majority of was Sorbs and turning inhabited place Saxon border town to the Prussian province of Brandenburg ( district Cottbus ).

The place is located in the former Lusatian lignite mining area and was intended to be excavated for the Gräbendorf open-cast mine in the 1980s and early 1990s , which is why many residents left the place. Due to the closure of the opencast mine in 1992, however, the site was preserved.

After the Congress of Vienna , Niederlausitz and with it Wüstenhain were assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . From 1952 the place was in the district of Calau .
