Robert Johannes Meyer

Robert Johannes Meyer (* 1882 ; † 1967 ) was a German lawyer.

Meyer was President of the Hamburg Regional Court from 1931 to 1933.

He did not agree to the dismissal of Jewish judges and was forced into retirement when the National Socialists came to power. In memory of this, his portrait was unveiled in the Hamburg district court .

Meyer was very active in the social life of the Hanseatic city and was u. a. Honorary member and chairman of the advisory board of the Society of Book Friends in Hamburg.

In 1925 Meyer was elected the first chairman of the Hamburger Kunstverein . However, he resigned from this office on June 1, 1933, because he was supposed to initiate the "Gleichschaltung" of the Kunstverein.

He lived in Hamburg throughout his life and was awarded the Medal for Art and Science by the Hamburg Senate in 1958 .

His grandson is the ambassador Matthias Alfred Johannes Meyer.
