history
Local history
Tornitz, which is laid out as a dead-end village, was first mentioned in 1438 as Tornuwicz . The place name contains, like numerous Slavic names that are formed with Torn- , the designation for thorn bushes . This is derived from the Old Sorbian word Torn , which also exists in other sounds in Lower Sorbian as Śerń and in Upper Sorbian as Ćerń . In Tornitz, Eichler assumes an unproven and reconstructed basic form Tornuvica , which was then formed with -sk or -c . In 1524 the place name was mentioned as Tornitz and in 1761 as Tarnjosk , in 1843 as Tornojsk and in 1880 both as Tarnojc and Tarnojsk .
From 1448 to 1525, the Tornitz estate was owned by the von Zabeltitz family. Other owners included the von Schönfeld families from 1710 to 1764 and the von Wilucky family from 1910.
As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Tornitz came with the entire Lower Lusatia to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the district of Calau . On January 1, 1926, the neighboring town of Briesen was incorporated into Tornitz. In 1952 the places came to the newly founded district of Calau . On May 1, 1974, Tornitz was incorporated into Laasow together with Wüstenhain . On October 26, 2003, Laasow was incorporated into Vetschau / Spreewald with its parts of the municipality and the towns of Koßwig , Missen and Raddusch .
Tornitz belongs to the parish of Laasow in the parish of Niederlausitz .
