Overcast
Under overcast is understood in the textile technology securing the fabric against fraying - one speaks in tailoring also of "Endeln". If you turn the fabric over - you form a hem - you also speak of omission .
Seam edges after cutting can be cleaned as follows:
- Overcasting stitch : Sewing around the seam edges with even stitches at an angle to the thread run
- Topstitching : Fold seam edges inwards and secure with lockstitch
- Hem stitch : Fold over and secure with a stitch that does not penetrate to the right side
- Overcast with a zigzag stitch close to the cut edges
- To miss with a zigzag stitch : fold over and secure over the cut edge
- Overcast with the zigzag scissors after stitching
- Overlock stitch: The overlock machine cuts and overcasts in one operation
- Overstitched : When connecting a gathered and a flat fabric edge
With some of these stitches, the serging seam gives the actual seam (tack seam) additional hold.
