The Liesing District Museum is a district and local history museum dedicated to the 23rd Viennese district of Liesing at Canavesegasse 24.

At the beginning of the history of today's museum stood the Liesingen local history researcher and court president Anton Matzig (1862–1939), who showed a first small exhibition in 1938 in the ballroom of the official building at Perchtoldsdorfer Straße 2. Matzig's son-in-law senior teacher Josef Ehn (1889–1959), who was very interested in prehistory, was also committed to his idea. On December 8, 1953, the Liesing Museum Association was founded. In the mid-1955, the museum was able to occupy two rooms in the office building and use the ballroom for exhibitions. The prehistoric and early historical orientation of the collection was retained even under Ehn's successors - the museum has a wealth of material from the Neolithic to the Romans to the Avars . Peter Schmidt, director of the museum since 1983, succeeded in obtaining the use permit for the former Atzgersdorf boys' primary school at Canavesegasse 24, which is under monument protection but has been vacant since the 1970s . In February 1985 the exhibition “100 Years of Badner Bahn ” was opened there. After renovations in 1996, it reopened on April 29, 1998.

In addition to a focus on early history, the house shows a historical overview of the eight old places of the youngest and probably most heterogeneous district of Vienna, plus folklore, dolls and toys from the 20th century; it commemorates personalities such as the resident of Rodauns Hugo von Hofmannsthal and offers a special exhibition on the railway theme. A total of 680 m² of exhibition and event space is available to the district museum. The current museum director is Maximilian Stony. The opening times are Wednesday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Closed in July and August.
