The District Museum Leopoldstadt is the district museum in Vienna's 2nd district , Leopoldstadt .

history

The Leopoldstadt District Museum was opened in 1963 on the initiative of the District Chairman at the time, Hubert Hladej, in the administrative building, which houses the District Administration, District Representation and Municipal District Office. The address is Karmelitergasse 9. The museum is located on the mezzanine floor and extends over 350 m², of which around 200 m² are repeatedly presented with special exhibitions. The aim of the district museum is to present the history of Leopoldstadt.

Collections

The Leopoldstadt District Museum has more than 7000 exhibits. The exhibition focuses on “The Jews in Leopoldstadt”, “The old Leopoldstadt”, “The Revolution of 1848” and “The North Station”. There are also many photographic views from 1769 (Daniel Huber).

Another room deals with the green areas of the district. The historic Vienna Prater with the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel is part of Leopoldstadt .
