The District Museum Penzing is the 14th Vienna district Penzing dedicated district and local history museum at the address Penzinger road 59th

The museum was founded in 1962 by Anton Scheiblin and, like all Viennese district museums, is based on the voluntary work of committed local historians. The building made available to the district museum by the municipality of Vienna dates from 1873. It is the former administrative building of the suburb of Penzing , which has housed the municipal authorities since 1892. The district museum started its activity with only two exhibition rooms in October 1963. The first director of the museum was Anton Scheiblin until his death in 1967, then Karl Koller and now Herbert Richter. The continuous growth of the collections led to the fact that after the municipal authorities moved away from 1978 onwards, a large part of the building was dedicated to museum use.

The collection

Today the Penzing District Museum has more than 20 exhibition rooms. Due to the location of the district in the west of Vienna, intersected or limited by important traffic routes such as the Westbahn or the Vienna West Entrance, the local development of road and rail traffic is a focus to which exhibitions are repeatedly dedicated.

In addition, the changes in the living environment of the residents as well as those of the natural landscape Wiental - Wienerwald and famous personalities of the district are documented.

Due to the voluntary work of the staff, the opening times are limited to Wednesday 5pm to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 12pm. The museum is closed during the school holidays and on public holidays, guided tours are possible at any time by arrangement.

Brick museum

The Vienna Brick and Ceramic Museum, which emerged from the Anton Schirmböck Collection, has been located in the same building since 1982. Opened in 1978 as a branch of the Penzing District Museum, it has been an independent museum since 1986. Opening times every first and third Sunday of the month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., closed during school and public holidays.
