history

Jehschen was first mentioned in a document in 1495 with the name Geschen . The place name is derived from the Old Sorbian word jesch for hedgehog . Either the place name means place where there are hedgehogs or it is derived from the personal name Jesch . Jehschen was originally a colony in Missen.

In 1844 Jehschen had a windmill and a water mill . At that time there were 14 residential buildings with 86 inhabitants in the village. In 1867 there was only the water mill, at that time the village had 73 inhabitants in eight buildings. Arnošt Muka did not count any Sorbian-speaking inhabitants in Jehschen for his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the previously Saxon Lower Lusatia passed to the Kingdom of Prussia . When the new district was formed in 1816, Jehschen came to the Calau district . On January 1, 1928, Jehschen was incorporated into Missen . On July 25, 1952, the village was assigned to the Calau district in the Cottbus district . After reunification , the Calau district was renamed the Calau district , after the Brandenburg district reform in December 1993, Jehschen came to the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . On October 26, 2003, the community of Missen with its districts Gahlen and Jehschen was incorporated into Vetschau / Spreewald .
