The village church of Terpt is located in the middle of the village on the village green between Terpter Hauptstrasse and Terpter Gartenstrasse . There is a small village pond in front of the sacred building.

Architecture and history

The church dates from the early 14th century, it was first mentioned on September 29, 1366 in a document from the Bishop of Meissen , in which a pastor Matthias in Terpt is mentioned. This mention is also the first documentary mention of Terpt. The building is a short hall with an enclosed choir and a square west tower with a pyramid roof . At the south portal there is a so-called checkerboard , which was discovered during restoration work in 2003. In 1845 the windows of the nave were enlarged and changed to flat arch windows . The interior of the church has a flat ceiling and a horseshoe gallery from the 17th century, the second gallery was removed during the restoration in 1845. The east gallery is dated to 1740. The church bells date from the 17th century.

In 1927 the interior of the church was renovated . In 1966 the church tower and its roof were completely renovated. Between 2015 and 2016, the choir and nave were secured, the funds for this were provided by the German Foundation for Monument Protection . In addition to the village of Terpt, the parish of Terpt also includes the surrounding villages of Alteno and Groß Radden (belongs to the town of Lübbenau / Spreewald in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district ).

Furnishing

The Terpt village church has a pulpit altar by the carpenter CF Vieth from 1740. The polygonal pulpit with decorative paintings in the Renaissance style is located between two Tuscan columns and cheeks decorated with putti . On the predella there is a depiction of the Lord's Supper from the year 1600, in the middle the depiction of the crucifixion.

The wooden baptismal angel given to a distinguished Mr. Hans Christian von Thermo in 1722 is only partially preserved, the wings and both arms are missing. The organ prospectus dates from 1809, the builder of the original organ is unknown. The organ behind the prospectus today was completely rebuilt in the early 20th century, probably in 1927, in Gustav Heinze's workshop in Sorau . The two-manual instrument has a pneumatic stop action and a cone drawer .
