Rebuilt village church Pritzen at the new location as the Evangelical Resurrection Church

The village church of Pritzen was about 700 years old and was located in the village of Pritzen in the municipality of Altdöbern, which was threatened by complete devastation . In 1973, the then council of the Calau district decided to relocate Pritzen. The resettlement took place in several steps over several years.

history

The village church of Pritzen was originally built in the 14th century as a Romanesque church . In 1585 parts of the interior, such as the altar, were rebuilt in the Renaissance style . In 1681 (other information from 1770) the appearance of the church was changed significantly with the addition of the church tower. Later, due to subsidence and the slight westerly inclination of the tower that had already begun, it had to be intercepted by side retaining walls. In 1714 there was another extension with a two-storey extension with a hipped roof . In 1841 the Niederlausitz organ builder Eduard Glietsch installed a manual-pedal nine-register organ . The Ilse Bergbau Aktien Gesellschaft bought the church in 1920 and renovated it extensively in the following years. The interior furnishings were renewed in 1937 and the wooden beam ceiling and interior painting in 1938.

Dismantling and Rescue

Recognizable numbering of the relocation of the Pritzen village church to the current Spremberg location

In 1988 the medieval church had to give way to the advancing open- cast brown coal mine in Greifenhain . On February 28, 1988, the last service took place at the old location in Pritzen. The church, which is of great cultural and historical value, was saved thanks to the commitment of monument conservationists and members of the church. Starting in the spring of 1988, the church was dismantled according to aspects of monument preservation and temporarily stored near Vetschau . After much discussion about a new location, an agreement was reached on a 3,000 square meter property in Spremberg in the immediate vicinity of the forest cemetery. The location was chosen, among other things, because numerous residents of other already devastated places such as Wolkenberg and Stradow had found a new home in the neighboring Schomberg development .

The Pritzen church was the first and only of its kind in the GDR, which was to be preserved despite the intended devastation of the place. Among other things, seven doors , seven windows , 25,000 roof tiles , 14,000 square timbers of the roof and 6,000 floor panels were professionally dismantled, numbered and stored . The preservationists benefited from the fact that the church was extensively renovated in the years 1936–1938 by the mining company Ilse Bergbau AG and was therefore in very good condition.

reconstruction

Side extension detail

In December 1991, the reconstruction work began at the new location in Spremberg with the pouring of the foundations. The foundation stone was laid on August 3, 1992 and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on December 12. On Easter Monday, April 4, 1994, the former Pritzen village church was inaugurated as the Evangelical Resurrection Church Spremberg .

The Spremberg Church of the Resurrection is today built in a south-west-north-east orientation. The church consists of a rectangular nave , with three arched windows on the north and two on the east, a flat choir end and a completely plastered church tower with an octagonal floor plan on the south side. An originally existing additional entrance on the east side no longer exists. In the lower area, the nave is faced with natural stone blocks. The numbering of the translocation can still be clearly recognized on these . The main entrance is through an arched door arranged in the tower base. The tower itself is provided with inclined support pillars, which were subsequently provided with flat bricks in 2012 . In the north-western, rough plastered two-storey extension, the sacristy is housed on the ground floor and the patron's box on the upper floor . The patronage box can be separated from the church by a window front. It is worth noting that these windows can be lowered into the wooden paneling underneath using a special mechanism. The access to the side extension is adorned by a sandstone border. The letters “CHKO and ACKGM” as well as the date of the original construction in 1714 are incorporated into the curved portals above this entrance. Under the portals with the letters there is the alliance coat of arms of the lords of Knoch, who ruled Pritzen since 1661. In addition to the altar , the interior also includes a wooden baptismal font in octagonal chalice shape with a baluster base and ornamental carvings from 1675, a sandstone hanging epitaph and two tombs . The hanging epitaph, which is installed in the southern choir area, was dedicated to Christian Ernst von Knoch (1686–1756). Below is the tomb of Gottlob Ernst Ferdinant von Knoch , which is executed in the form of an obelisk with a mourning putto .

Addendum

With the turnaround in the GDR and the associated shutdown of entire power plant complexes, the Greifenhain opencast mine also stopped in October 1992, shortly before the center of Pritzen, which was already 75% excavated. The wooden bell tower of the village of Wolkenberg , which was devastated in 1992 and brought here by helicopter on October 15, 1993 , now stands on the former site of the village church .
