history

Local history

The place name denotes a place in a clearing, i.e. on a clearing. Lichtenau was mentioned in 1319 as Lichtenow , in 1397 as Lichtno and in 1447 as Lichtenaw . The Lower Sorbian name variant was called Lichtnow in 1761 and 1847 .

As a result of the Congress of Vienna Lichtenau came with the entire Lower Lusatia to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the Luckau district . On July 21, 1875, Lichtenau and the Lichtenau estate district from the Luckau district were incorporated into the Calau district. With the Brandenburg district reform in 1950, Lichtenau and other communities left the district of Calau, which was converted into the district of Senftenberg, and was incorporated into the district of Lübben (Spreewald) . In 1952 the places came to the newly founded district of Calau .

On January 1, 1926, Lichtenau was incorporated into Tornow . From the beginning of the 1960s, lignite was mined in the area around Lichtenau and Tornow . Tornow was devastated in 1968 by the Schlabendorf-Nord opencast mine . The corridor of Tornow and Lichtenau was incorporated into Kittlitz on January 25, 1968.

On October 26, 2003, Kittlitz with its parts of the municipality including Lichtenau and the places Boblitz , Groß Beuchow , Bischdorf , Groß Klessow , Hindenberg , Groß Lübbenau , Klein Radden , Leipe and Ragow were incorporated into Lübbenau / Spreewald as districts.

Lichtenau belongs to the Lower Lusatia church district .
