The Lichtenauer See ( Lower Sorbian Lichtnojski jazor ) is a 326 hectare recultivated open pit lake in the place of the same name Lichtenau .

location

It is located in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in Brandenburg , southwest of Lübbenau . The A 13 is to the east of the lake .

history

The lake emerged from a residual hole in the Schlabendorf Nord open-cast lignite mine and was filled with groundwater and precipitation . Since 2011 it has been connected to the Beuchower Westgraben , which allows excess water to drain off towards the Spree . Excessive water levels in 2012 meant that there was a risk of terrain breaking .
