Groß Beuchow , Buchow in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the city of Lübbenau / Spreewald in the northern part of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in southern Brandenburg .

location

Groß Beuchow is located in Niederlausitz, northeast of the Niederlausitzer Landücken nature park and south of the Spreewald . The municipality of Klein Beuchow belongs to the place . To the south is the Lichtenauer See, created from the Schlabendorf-Nord opencast mine .

In the north, Groß Beuchow borders the Lübbenau districts of Klein Radden , Zerkwitz and Krimnitz . In the northwest is the municipality of Klein Beuchow and the city of Lübbenau / Spreewald. The districts of Boblitz , Kittlitz and Groß Klessow follow to the east and south-east . To the south, beyond the former Schlabendorf-Nord opencast mine, lies the Zinnitz district of Calau with its Bathow district . To the west is the district of Hindenberg and further to the west the towns of Willmersdorf-Stöbritz and Egsdorf , which already belong to the district of Dahme-Spreewald .

Great Beuchow

The place name of place Groß Beuchow is derived from a personal name. This could have been Bych , so Bychov referred to the location of a Bych. The place name was mentioned in 1350 as Bichow and in 1453 as Great-Bychow . The Lower Sorbian place name was mentioned in 1761 as Buchow .

As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Groß Beuchow came with the entire Lower Lusatia to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the district of Calau . With the Brandenburg district reform in 1950, Groß Beuchow and other communities left the district, which was converted into the Senftenberg district, and became part of the Lübben district (Spreewald) . In 1952 the places came to the newly founded district of Calau . Groß Beuchow belongs to the Lower Lusatia church district . On January 1, 1956, Klein Beuchow was incorporated into Groß Beuchow. From the 1960s, lignite was mined in the area around Groß Beuchow . In 1960 was Boschwitz , the Vorwerk of Gross Beuchow by the open pit Schlabendorf-Nord devastated . On October 26, 2003, Groß Beuchow and Klein Beuchow and the towns of Boblitz , Kittzlitz , Bischdorf , Groß Klessow , Hindenberg , Groß Lübbenau , Klein Radden , Leipe and Ragow in Lübbenau / Spreewald were incorporated as districts.

Culture and sights

In Groß Beuchow there are three architectural monuments of the city of Lübbenau : a country warehouse and the estate manager's house on the main road as well as the hunting lodge with the outbuilding and a connecting building. The outbuilding is a former church, which was abandoned in 1574.

In addition to the annual village festival, the district's disabled sports festival has been held in Groß Beuchow since the 1990s. The village is home to the Grün-Weiß Groß Beuchow sports club and a volunteer fire brigade.

In the village there is one of the fifty thickest oaks in Germany with an estimated age of 280 to 350 years and a chest height of 8.39 m.

Economy and Infrastructure

Groß Beuchow is located west of the Spreewald motorway triangle , where the federal motorway 15 merges with the federal motorway 13 , which runs directly north of Groß Beuchow . This runs between large and small Beuchow.

Personalities

The head of the investigation department of the Ministry for State Security Albert Schubert was born on August 11, 1923 in Groß Beuchow.
