history
Schadewitz was first mentioned in a document on August 7, 1227. The name of the village comes from Sorbian , but a later report from 1723 indicates German settlement. The place went back in 1297 from Bodo von Ileburg into the possession of the Doberlug monastery . The first timber frame church was located in the center of the village until 1784. Since Schadewitz has always been a poor village, the parish gave money to build a new stone church. This church is located on the village meadow. The village's Lutheran congregation has had financial problems throughout its history, which is why meadows were sold and collections were carried out. In 1864 there was a water mill, a windmill , a pitch hut and a forester's house in Schadewitz . In 1914 the small bell of the village church that was cast in Torgau was melted down. The Schadewitzer Kulturhaus was inaugurated in 1956 .
After the fall of the Wall , the town's fire station was renovated inside and out at the beginning of the 1990s. In addition, a new bus loop was created and in 1996 the church roof was re-covered.
In 1998, Schadewitz was merged with the neighboring villages of Schönborn, Gruhno and Lindena to form the municipality of Schönborn.
