Interpretation of the place name
Lindena means something like settlement in the Lindenaue . This was proven by Ernst Eichler's research on place names in 1975.
Local history
Lindena was first mentioned in a document on May 3, 1228. At that time the entire property belonged to the Dobrilugk Monastery . In the document of Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious of July 22nd, 1234, the street village of Lindenowe , which was founded by German settlers around 1200 and located on the Kleine Elster , appears as the property of the Dobrilugk monastery , as does Schonenborn and many other villages. After the introduction of the Reformation it remained with the rule and the later princely office of Dobrilugk.
According to a report from 1723, the Immediatamtsdorf was occupied by 25 hoppers and 13 gardeners. The church was, as it is today, Filia von Schonenburn under sovereign patronage .
In 1740 Friedrich Seidel introduced the inn trade in Lindena. The village got a school at the beginning of the 19th century and the forecourt was planted with linden and chestnut trees.
In 1998, Lindena merged with the neighboring villages of Schönborn, Gruhno and Schadewitz to form the municipality of Schönborn.
In August 2003 Lindena celebrated the 775th anniversary of the first mention of the village.

The church
The Lindena village church is a three-aisled basic church. The rectangular altar house with its semicircular apse adjoining the nave in the east does not reach the width of the central nave, in contrast to the tower facing the entire western front. With regard to the design of the floor plan, apart from features of a constructive or formal nature, the first half of the 13th century can be assumed as the time of origin for the core of the church. The interior of the church has galleries on three sides which, like the stalls, have a modern painting. A rare piece of equipment is the late Romanesque sandstone baptism.
