history

The place name can be traced back to the Sorbian word łuka for "meadow" or łukojce for "settlement on the meadow stream ". The first documentary mention was in a feudal letter from 1543 as Luckewitz . Like the neighboring towns of Schöllnitz and Buchwäldchen, the village belonged to the von Zobeltitz family . In contrast to the surrounding places, Luckaitz, which was also known as Luckwitz or Luckowitz , was rarely mentioned. As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Luckaitz came to the Kingdom of Prussia . The place belonged to the Prussian district of Calau . A sheep farm and a colony are mentioned in 1844. There was an upper and a lower mill in the village. In 1864 the estate belonged to the von Pannwitz family and from 1902 to the Schneiderheinze family. In 1928 the Luckaitz estate and the village were combined. After the Second World War, the place remained in the newly founded district of Calau in 1952 and was incorporated into Schöllnitz on July 1, 1950, together with the neighboring Neudöbern. On March 31, 2002, Schöllnitz merged with its localities Neudöbern, Rettchensdorf and Luckaitz with the towns of Buchwäldchen, Muckwar and Gosda to form the municipality of Luckaitztal.
