history

As the Wendish parish of Czyrkewicz , a church already existed before 1315. A Wendish mission church in the diocese of Meißen was then located here . Later the church was a branch church of Lübbenau. The Reformation took place around 1530 , supported by the Protestant nobles von der Schulenburg . In the middle of the 17th century, the Lower Sorbian linguist Johannes Choinan worked here as a pastor. However, today's parish is German-speaking.

The current church was built in 1770 on the site of a medieval church that was demolished in 1769 . The building has a rectangular floor plan, is classical on the outside and late baroque on the inside . In 1788 the two-storey gallery in the shape of a horseshoe , which still exists today, was built. In 1841 the church tower on the western side was built. The church received an organ in 1854. The instrument, created by Ludwig Hartig from Züllichau , is still in use today after a restoration in 1993 and 1994. Two colored altar windows, depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, were donated by pastor Theodor Heydler in 1896 and created in 1898 by glass painter Hugo Jaeckel from Berlin-Spandau . The top of the church tower dates from 1906. In 1998 the patronage box , the gallery and the stalls were restored .

Furnishing

Inside the church, which has 800 seats, there is an 18th century pulpit altar delimited by two columns . The pulpit parapet is decorated with the image of a blessing Christ . Christ is also shown on a lead-glazed colored round picture above the entablature.

The baptismal font in the church comes from the previous medieval building and is dated to the 13th century. In the baptismal bowl there is a dedication from 1650 for the linguist Johann Choinan, who is a pastor here.

Also noteworthy is a recent globe chandelier, the top of which is adorned with a cross.

organ

The two-manual organ with 16 registers is the last completely preserved work by the master organ builder Ludwig Hartig (Zullichau). The purely mechanical slider chest instrument dates back to 1854. The organ is one of the most valuable instruments among the organs in the region. In 2003 Lothar Knappe recorded the CD Die Orgeln im Spreewald on her .
