The Lübbenau-Neustadt Church is the Protestant church in the Neustadt district of the city of Lübbenau / Spreewald .

history

The church building, which belongs to the evangelical parish of Niederlausitz , was built in 1869 as a cemetery chapel through a bequest from Karl Lehmann . With the construction of the Lübbenau-Neustadt district in connection with the construction of the Lübbenau power plant , the establishment of a separate Protestant parish for the Neustadt began in 1958. In 1959 the chapel was redesigned as a room for church services for the emerging community. The walled-up windows were broken open, a false ceiling was added and the interior was given a light color. On the 4th Advent 1959, the completion was celebrated with an evening service. In 1965 the legally independent municipality was founded. The villages of Kittlitz , Eisdorf , Lichtenau and Schönfeld Nord , whose original municipality Schönfeld fell victim to open-cast lignite mining , were incorporated into the new municipality. Since there was no community room, a showman's wagon was set up behind the chapel in 1964 for consultations and children's services. After the cemetery was closed in 1968, the cemetery gardener's house was used as a community room and was rebuilt ten years later.

architecture

The style of the Gothic Revival of brick built chapel has a rectangular floor plan. A five-sided apse is on the east side. The building is provided with pointed arched windows, which are ornamentally glazed. The western gable wall has two round windows, above which there is a sculpture in a niche that is supposed to represent the head of Jesus Christ . There is a cross on the western part of the roof.

East Side

The bronze-iron handle on the door in the west gable is remarkable. The blessing, peace be upon you, is carved out on the handle of the handle . A half-length portrait of an angel resting his praying hands on a cross is attached to the handle.

The chapel is very simply furnished. In the apse, which is provided with a pointed arch, stands a wooden altar on which there are wooden crosses.

The Catholic Church of the Annunciation is located right next to the chapel .
