Mochow village church

The evangelical village church Mochow is a neo-Romanesque hall church in Mochow , a district of the municipality Schwielochsee in the district of Dahme-Spreewald in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of Lower Lausitz the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The Mochower Dorfstraße runs as a central connecting axis from the south into the historic town center. From there it continues in a northerly direction. The church stands east of this street on a raised piece of land that is fenced in with a wall made of reddish bricks .

history

The parish indicates on an information board that there must have been a parish church in the village as early as 1346 . A picture of a saint is said to have belonged to the church furnishings , which led to Mochow becoming a place of pilgrimage . Numerous pilgrims led to a modest prosperity in the place, which was only ended by the Thirty Years War . Not much is known about the further fate of the sacred building . Pastor Christoph Hanke reported to the Lausitzer Rundschau on the occasion of the 125th anniversary that only a Pietà from the 15th century and a bell weighing around 60 kg remained.

Apparently the financial means for a new building were only available at the end of the 19th century. The foundation stone was laid on July 17, 1879. After one year of construction the church on Sept. 22, 1880 was inaugurated be. The church patronage at that time lay with Count Heinrich von Houwald , who largely financed the construction. In addition, there were further monetary donations amounting to 5116.81 marks . In 1996 the village community renovated the spire.

Building description

West portal

The building was essentially made of reddish brick on a circumferential base made of uncut and not layered field stone . The choir has moved in and has a five-eighth closing . The fields are structured with wide pilaster strips ; at the upper edge of the field is a frieze that opens downwards . In each field there is a large, three-part arched window. At the southeast corner of the choir is a small extension with an arched gate.

This is followed by the nave to the west . It has a rectangular plan; its east wall is closed. The north and south sides of the nave are strictly structured. Four pilaster strips form three large fields, each with a large, three-part arched window. There is also a surrounding frieze at the transition to the roof ridge . The ship has a simple gable roof .

In the west stands the square and strongly indented west tower . Access is via a two-step staircase that leads to a large, arched and triple-profiled portal. There is a small arched window on the north and south sides. The floor above is separated by a cornice . In each of the three accessible sides there is another arched window. Above a further cornice is a large and also arched sound arcade . It merges into the gable adorned with a cross , which in turn merges into a transverse gable roof. Above it rises a spire , which ends with a tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

The church furnishings come from the same period of construction. The Pietà is now in the Straupitz village church , while the bell hangs in the tower again after renovation at the beginning of the 21st century.

To the southwest of the building there is a boulder with a memorial plaque that commemorates those who fell from the First and Second World Wars.
