Crombie Castle
Crombie Castle is a tower house near the Scottish town of Aberchirder in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
history
There was already a fortification at the site when James Innes, 2nd of Crommey bought the property around 1540. Today's Crombie Castle was believed to have been built between 1543 and 1547. Over the centuries the Tower House has been expanded several times. The east wing dates from around 1570. Further wings were added around 1820, around 1860 and around 1910. In the second half of the 1930s the restoration of Crombie Castle began. The Tower House is still owned by the family today.

Crombie Castle is isolated on the Crombie Burn creek about three kilometers west of Aberchirder. It originally had an elongated floor plan, which was expanded to an L-shaped one around 1570 . The three lower, later extensions were made on the other three sides. The facades of the three-story Tower House are plastered with Harl , whereby the natural stone surrounds of the building openings are offset. Corner rounds emerge on two edges of the original building . A wide loopholes is set into its north gable . Various parts of the building are designed with hatches .
