history

Local history

Woschkow was first mentioned in a document in 1406. The name can be derived from the Lower Sorbian word Wóška and translated as little louse , which refers to a settlement in the forest where there were numerous insects. The place was named in 1463 as Woschko , 1551 as Wuschko and Woßko and in 1738 as Woschko , 1740 as Woschke and 1843 as Woškow . The village belonged to the Senftenberg office . From 1448 the office and thus the place belonged to the Electorate of Saxony . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Lower Lusatia and with it Woschkow came to the Kingdom of Prussia . A windmill was first mentioned in the village in 1818. Woschkow belonged to the district of Calau . After the reorganization of the districts in 1952, Woschkow did not come to the newly founded Senftenberg district , but to the Calau district . From 1957 to 1960 the LPGs were founded in town.

In 1989 the upper village was cleared due to the Greifenhain opencast mine . The opencast mine was closed in 1993. After the old one hundred and fifty year old peace oak was felled, a new oak was planted in 1996. On December 31, 1998 Woschkow was incorporated into Großräschen.
