Saalhausen ( Załuž in Lower Sorbian ) is a district of the southern Brandenburg town of Großräschen in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district .

geography

The place Saalhausen lies in the Niederlausitz . It is a western district of the city of Großräschen. To the east are the districts of Barzig and Freienhufen as well as the town of Großräschen. In the north are the Bronkower locality Lug and in the northwest the Großräschener district Wormlage . In the south border Annahütte and Drochow , Schipkauer municipality parts. To the west is the municipality of Sallgast , which already belongs to the Elbe-Elster district.

history

Local history

During excavations in 1977 in the gravel pit southwest of Saalhausen, a Bronze Age burial ground was discovered.

In 1290, Saalhausen was first mentioned in a document together with Nozzedil in the south when a border issue was resolved . Saalhausen was in the north of the Senftenberg office with which it became part of the Electorate of Saxony in 1448 . In the course of the Congress of Vienna , Lower Lusatia and Saalhausen came from Saxony to the Kingdom of Prussia . Here the place belonged to the district of Calau . From 1818 to 1864, two windmills were operated in Saalhausen.

Sorbian was spoken in Saalhausen until the 19th century. When Arnošt Muka visited the place in the 1880s, he only met six old people who spoke Sorbian.

In 1952 Saalhausen came to the newly founded Senftenberg district . In 1962, Saalhausen was connected to the central water network. From 1992 to 2001 the place belonged to the office Großräschen . On December 31, 2001 he was incorporated into the city of Großräschen.

Culture and sights

Village church

The Saalhausen village church was built in 1878. The church is a brick building built in the neo-Romanesque style . Inside there is a baptismal font from the 15th century and an organ created by Wilhelm Sauer (1831–1916).

Immediately next to the church there is a memorial for the fallen. The church and the monument are currently listed in the local list of monuments .

Local associations include the Dorfclub Saalhausen and the local group of the volunteer fire brigade , which was founded in Saalhausen in 1924. The local choir has been active here again since 1991. In doing so, he revived a tradition that has been documented in Saalhausen since at least 1924. The traditional events of the village, such as the zamping , the Easter bonfire , the setting up of the maypole and the annual village festival , are also actively maintained .

Infrastructure

The federal road 96 runs through the village from Großräschen to Finsterwalde . The federal motorway 13 is located directly west of Saalhausen and can be reached via the Großräschen junction.

A gravel pit is operated in Saalhausen in which agates are also found.
