history

Glashüttenstrasse - part of the glassworkers' settlement

The first written mention of the place comes from 1418 as Serchin , which means place that was created by slash and burn . The development of the farming village was slow. In 1856 a glassworks was opened. Lignite was mined in the area in 1870 . From 1872 a noticeable upswing was felt in the village. The population increased from 250 to around 3500 in 1912. During this time, the place also received its school, a post office, an outdoor swimming pool and a connection to the rail network. The glassworks was expanded into a small industrial complex. In the second half of the 19th century, the German superseded the Lower Sorbian language .

In 1938 the name of the place was changed from Särchen to Annahütte . This was the name of the glassworks, which in turn was named after the owner's wife. After the Second World War , the briquette factories were dismantled as war compensation and the remaining industrial facilities were nationalized.

The area was declared a mining reserve and all investments in Annahütte were stopped. The plans to devastate the village were later lifted, but a new plan from 1984 meant that overdredging should take place in 2000 . At the turn of 1989/1990 these plans were given up again. The attempt to privatize the glassworks in the following years failed.

On December 31, 2001, the municipalities of Schipkau , Annahütte, Klettwitz , Meuro , Drochow and Hörlitz merged to form the non-official municipality of Schipkau.
