Henrietten Church

The Henriettenkirche is a Protestant church in Annahütte , part of the southern Brandenburg community of Schipkau in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district .

history

Annahütte, which had the Wendish name Särchen until 1938 , belonged to the parish of the neighboring community of Klettwitz . The Annahütte colony emerged with the glassworks and lignite industries and grew rapidly. The Annahütter entrepreneur privy councilor Heye decided to build a church. Heye wanted to create a spiritual center for the industrial plant , which would raise it above external worry .

In June 1904 construction began on the church. Most of the shell was completed in the winter of the same year. The church was named in memory of the wife of the founder of the church. The name was consecrated on June 27, 1905. Due to the further growth in population, an expansion of the church was necessary, so that in 1924 two side galleries were drawn in. This increased the number of seats from 138 to 210. In the following years, a hall was expanded in the substructure and used for community purposes.

After the decision was made during the GDR era to excavate the town of Annahütte with the Klettwitz-Nord opencast mine in 2000 , the church and the surrounding glassworkers' settlement fell into disrepair from the 1950s. After the political change in 1989 , these plans were abandoned and the church was renovated from 1992 to 1993. In addition to funding, this was also supported by Heye-Glas . Like the surrounding glassworkers' settlement, the church is one of the architectural monuments of the community of Schipkau .
