history

Ruin of the Kruger Mill (2018)

The mill was built in 1780 as a water mill on the Pößnitz. The name Krügers Mühle is derived from the licensing law that a property owner, a Krüger, held. From 1827 the mill was owned by the family. Friedrich Bäumler bought the mill. Traugott Noack took over the mill in 1927. The settlement around Krügers Mühle came into being when the mill owner Noack sold parts of his forest property to the Schipkau residents who worked in the mining industry.

A turbine was operated in the Krügersmühle to generate electricity for the later settlement of the Galgenberg . A sawmill and a bakery belonged to the mill. The bakery supplied BUBIAG (brown coal and briquette industrial corporation) shops up to 40 kilometers away, including the factory department store in Schipkau, which was located in the Vogelberg colony . The bakery was closed in 1946. The sawmill was dismantled as a war reparation. Milling ended on June 30, 1959, and production was taken over by the Senftenberg consumer mills .
