Vogelberg (Schipkau)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vogelberg ( Upper Sorbian Tšibrińcy ) was a settlement along the road from Kostebrau - Friedrichsthal to Schipkau - Krügers Mühle southwest of Klettwitz - Wilhelminensglück and west of today's Schipkau.

history

The Vogelberg settlement was founded around 1880 by Sorbian miners and glassworkers who moved from Saxony to work in the Friedrichsthal glassworks , the Schipkau brown coal works and the later Anna-Süd opencast mine .

At the beginning of the 20th century, the development of the Klettwitz opencast mine began, and the first parts of the settlement were cleared in the 1930s. After the Second World War and with the establishment of the GDR , the permanent resettlements from the colony took place in the newly created Schipkau Galgenbergsiedlung . Between 1958 and 1964, the colony was dredged up to a 300 meter long stretch of the street of the same name.

In 1998, construction work began on the Klettwitz wind farm on the post-mining landscape at the level of the former location of Vogelberg , which was commissioned in November 1999.

geography

The colony was once on a hill in the middle of a swampy landscape surrounded by many forests with numerous ponds and streams with more than 20 mills.
