The Brandenburg Tractor Works was a GDR agricultural machinery manufacturer in Brandenburg an der Havel .

history

In mid-1948, the construction of a tractor production facility began on the site of the largely dismantled Brennabor AG. Production began in 1949 with a wheel tractor, and chain tractors followed in 1952 .

As a state-owned company, the company initially belonged to the centrally managed vehicle construction of the GDR. In 1956 it was assigned to the industrial administration of agricultural machinery together with the other tractor factories . At the beginning of the 1960s, these tractor factories were profiled to include final production ( Schönebeck tractor factory), engine production ( Nordhausen tractor factory ) and gearbox production (Brandenburger tractor works).

Due to the sharp decline in demand for chain tractors from the end of the 1950s, this profiling for the Brandenburger tractor works began a little earlier. As early as 1960, gearbox production for the Famulus tractors was taken over by the Nordhausen tractor factory . The company now traded as VEB Getriebewerk Brandenburg , which together with the other tractor manufacturers was again assigned to vehicle construction from 1964 .

Products

The basis of the first tractor was a 2-cylinder diesel V-engine with 30 hp, which was developed by Orenstein & Koppel in the late 1930s. The RS03 "Aktivist" tractor equipped with it was produced from 1949 to 1952.

In 1952 the production of the chain tractor KS62 "Rübezahl" with 60 HP, a product of the FAMO-Werke , which was already being produced in the 1930s, began. The tractor was given the type designation KS07 in 1954 and now had 63 hp. Further development measures took effect in 1954.

Further development of the KS07 to the KS30 "Urtrak" from 1956 with also 63 HP. Bulldozers based on KS07 and KS30. The latter ran under the type designation KT50.

From 1957 the production of the electric forklift truck EFG 1000, developed by VEB Verlade- und Transportanlagenbau Leipzig , took place .
