The state-owned company VEB Getriebewerk Brandenburg was the most important supplier of gearboxes in the German Democratic Republic .

history

The company emerged from the Brandenburg tractor works because the decline in demand for its products ( caterpillar tractors ) made it necessary to switch production. The transmissions for the IFA W50 and IFA L60 as well as for various tractors and self-propelled machines were manufactured in the Brandenburg transmission plant . By 1990 almost 900,000 transmissions for trucks, tractors and self-propelled machines were produced. After the IFA 1318 project failed in 1990 , the main customer for transmissions, VEB IFA-Automobilwerk Ludwigsfelde, broke away. In contrast to other participating companies, the closure could be averted, but had to give up self-employment.

Thanks to the commitment of the management, the company became part of the ZF Getriebe GmbH .
