The orchestra of the Vienna University of Technology ( TU Orchestra for short ) is an amateur orchestra whose aim is to promote musical activities at the Vienna University of Technology .

history

The orchestra of the Technical University of Vienna was founded in 1984 by Gisela Kemmerling, the wife of the former rector Walter Kemmerling .

Since it was founded, the orchestra has given concerts every semester with a large symphonic line- up and also with small to large chamber music ensembles. The repertoire includes works from all styles, from JS Bach to Gottfried von Eine , as well as premieres of works that were composed especially for the orchestra. Tours have taken the orchestra to Budapest , Graz , Salzburg , Turkey , Germany , France , Spain , Italy and Slovenia . Chamber music groups in various formations soon formed , which provide the musical framework for festive occasions at the Vienna University of Technology and at international congresses.

In 1996, the orchestra expanded his musical spectrum and led with La Serva Padrona of Pergolesi first time an opera at the Vienna University of Technology , with which it also in Italy has appeared. This development was followed by performances a. a. by Mozart's Così fan tutte , The Abduction from the Seraglio and The Magic Flute , Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia , Haydn's L'Infedeltà delusa and Verdi's Don Carlo successfully continued.

The orchestra's 15th anniversary was celebrated in 1999 in the Great Hall of the Wiener Musikverein as a benefit concert in favor of Menschen für Menschen with Haydn's creation . In December 2004 the orchestra celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gala concert in the Vienna Konzerthaus .

In December 2009 the orchestra celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala concert in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

The orchestra has about 75 members. In addition to students and members of the Vienna University of Technology , students from other universities in Vienna and other interested instrumentalists also participate.
