Saalhausen village church

The Saalhausen village church is a Protestant church that is a listed building. It is located in Saalhausen , a district of the small town Großräschen in southern Brandenburg in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . The church built in the last quarter of the 19th century can be found here with an adjoining cemetery and a memorial for the fallen in the center of the village.

The village church in Saalhausen, first mentioned in 1290, was built between 1876 and 1878. A last-time extensive restoration of the church took place shortly after the turn of the years from 1989 to 1991. The parish Saalhausen belonged until 1 January 2020 to the parish of Senftenberg-Spremberg and since then the church district Niederlausitz in Sprengel Görlitz the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

Building description

At the church is one in neo-Romanesque built style brick building with field stone base. The octagonal tower added to the west of the nave is provided with a lantern and a pointed dome.

The interior of the church is characterized by a wooden beam ceiling and a horseshoe gallery. In addition to a Gothic pulpit altar, the inventory includes a round baptismal font from the 15th century, the shaft and base from the 19th century.

Sauer organ

In the church there is an organ built by the master organ builder Wilhelm Sauer (1831–1916), Opus 269 , from 1878. Today it is also a listed building.

The instrument has eight stops on a manual and pedal with a mechanical cone door .

Dunning and remembrance

Immediately by the church there is a memorial to the fallen, which commemorates the villagers who died in the two world wars and is part of the overall monument of the church. This memorial, consisting of three steles and name plaques, was erected between 1920 and 1930. It is crowned by a golden eagle. Granite was used as building material for the steles and field stone for the base.

The inscriptions on the monument are as follows:

  • Commemorative plaque of the First World War : In honor of the heroes who fell in the World War 1914-18 ;
  • Commemorative plaque of the Second World War : Due to the Second World War, the Saalhausen community complains: They urge peace
