history

Local history

In 1937 a stone box with two stone axes was found near Settinchen , which is one of the oldest evidence of settlement in Calau Switzerland .

The place name Settinchen is probably derived from the Lower Sorbian place Žyto for grain , the basic form would be Žytna . A related example is the Saxon town of Zittau whose place name is derived from the Upper Sorbian word Žitawa . Settinchen was mentioned in 1526 as Setinichen , 1576 as Satinichen and 1675 as Settinichen . The Sorbian place name variants were called Źůtim and Žytym in 1761 . The Germanized variant of the name Settin was extended by the German suffix -chen . To the northwest of Settinchen are other places with the suffix -chen Mallenchen , Wanninchen and Presenchen .

As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Settinchen came to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the Calau district . The main line of business was agriculture. The residents of Settinchen also worked in the brick factories in neighboring towns and on the railway. On January 1, 1926, Settinchen was incorporated into Cabel. After the Second World War, Settinchen belonged to the Calau district, which was newly founded in 1952 . In the course of the Brandenburg district reform in the 1950s, Settinchen was incorporated into Gollmitz on January 1, 1957. The place belongs to the church district Niederlausitz . On December 31, 2001, Gollmitz was incorporated into the town of Calau with Settinchen and the towns of Buckow , Groß Jehser , Craupe and Zinnitz .
