Reuden Manor Chapel

The Gutskapelle Reuden is a baroque chapel in Reuden in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in southern Brandenburg . The chapel is listed and is one of the architectural monuments in Calau .

history

In 1690, Colonel Ernst Matthias von Borcke (also Borgke) acquired the Reuden estate . He lived in Dresden in Electoral Saxony and, inspired by the building activity there, had the estate and the chapel expanded in a baroque style. Borcke died in March 1728 before the inauguration, which took place in 1729. His son Otto Bernhard Borcke completed the work. In 1861 the building received the lantern with a hood. During the GDR era, the building was soaked through and fell into disrepair, as Reuden was supposed to be devastated by open- cast lignite mining . In 1997, a support association was founded to save the chapel from deterioration. It has been used for concerts and exhibitions since then. On January 29, 2011, the first wedding ceremony took place.

Building description

The chapel is assigned to the Dresden Baroque . It has a square floor plan with four corner projections. The central building is crowned by a lantern. Above the entrance portal is a coat of arms with the coat of arms of the Borcke and Edeling families.

Furnishing

The pulpit altar is designed in the Baroque style. The candlesticks donated by Otto Bernhard Borgke bear his name, the family coat of arms and the year 1729.

The church bell cast by Andreas Herold (1623–1696) comes from the previous building. On it is the inscription ANNO 1695 GOS MICH ANDREAS HEROLD VON DRESDEN IN CALAU .
