history
The building was built in the middle of the 14th century. In the second half of the 17th century, there was massive intervention in the structure: the nave was raised, a west tower was added and the windows were enlarged in a “ baroque ” style. A restoration took place between 1993 and 1995.
Building description
The structure was essentially made of field stones that were not layered or hewn. Reddish brick was mostly used for repair work . The choir is straight and has not moved in. The remains of an original group of three windows can be seen on the east wall: in the center is a very narrow, arched depression that has meanwhile been blocked. It could still come from the construction time. To the left and right of it are two large, pressed-segment-arched windows.
The nave has a rectangular floor plan. The north wall is windowless apart from a pressed segment arch-shaped window in the upper western area. On the south side there are a total of three large windows; one in the choir area and two more in the nave. The remains of a clogged priest's gate can be seen between the choir and nave . In the middle is a large, double-stepped portal made of masonry stones. The ship carries a simple gable roof , the eastward hipped is. The building has a flat roof inside.
The boarded church tower has a square floor plan and visually protrudes from the nave. It can be entered from the south through a gate. In the bell floor there are simple sound arcades , above is a bent pyramid roof , which ends with a tower ball and weather vane .
Furnishing
The altarpiece from the beginning of the 18th century is constructed in the form of an aedicule . The predella with a depiction of the Lord's Supper is decorated with volutes and putti ; the twisted columns with wide medallions and a vine medallion in the top. The altarpiece shows the crucifixion group , while the annunciation of the Lord and the birth of Jesus Christ can be seen in the side cheeks . In the altar extract is the Ascension , above a sculpture of the triumphant Christ can be seen. The pulpit was probably made at the same time. Pictures of Salvator mundi and the evangelists are placed between winding corner pillars .
Other church furnishings include a wooden fifth with an octagonal top from the beginning of the 18th century and two epitaphs that were placed on the north wall. They remember Georg Wilhelm von Birckholtz, who died in 1747, and his wife Sophie, who died in 1748. The tombstones were made of black and white marble and are accompanied by differently designed Vitentafeln . Above the busts of the deceased are placed between grieving putti.
On the gallery is an organ that Alexander Schuke created in 1898. The instrument has six registers on one manual .
A memorial to the north of the church commemorates those who died in the First World War . The column stands on a stone base and carries a plaque with the inscription. "From the estate and community Kümmritz died the heroic death for their fatherland in the world wars 1914-1918".
